I would suggest you install it in a non-protected Windows folder. You can use the default installation for Steam, and it will load it into C:\Program Files\Steam\ but you may want to consider installing it in a different location on another drive that has more space (for example, D:\Steam\ or D:\Games\Steam\) and is not a Windows protected folder.
